After a meeting on March 17, it was decided that, out of an abundance of caution for our members and friends, we will not be meeting for worship on Sundays for the time being. This decision and the general situation will be reviewed again Tuesday, April 7th in order to determine if a change in policy still makes sense.
We do have plans for the interim, so please keep reading...
Ministry Opportunity to SERVE OTHERS affected by this growing crisis:
Why: The COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) Pandemic is already having an unprecedented impact on families and individuals at risk. We already partner with The Sharing Place, a ministry of Lutheran Child and Family Services (http://www.lutheranfamily.org) This long-standing ministry serves the 46220 area code plus several more in Indianapolis.
When: Thursdays 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
How: Each Thursday from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm a collection bin will be out on the sidewalk in front of the Church. Simply drive by, put your donation into the bin and go on about your day. It is safe, and convenient, AND you can rest easy knowing that every non-perishable item will be distributed to a needy family by an organization with a long track record of quality, compassionate, care.
It is vital that we see this as the missional opportunity that it is. We have resurrection hope. Many of our friends and neighbors do not possess this hope. As a result, they live, think, and act, potentially from a Spirit of Fear. We have the remedy for that, don't we?
For the interim:
Each week we will post a video sermon on a YouTube link. This Sunday's sermon will be posted later this week. Please be aware that YouTube.com does not allow us to control which advertisements appear or which video plays after this one.
If you are not on our email list and would like to be, CLICK HERE, our Ministry Coordinator will be in contact with you to arrange that.
We are exploring how to enhance our collection of food and household items for The Sharing Place, not only involving SoJ members as donors, but inviting the larger community to participate as well. Stay tuned as we work out the details.
It is important that we double up our efforts to pray for one another and especially those who are distant from The Church or have no faith whatsoever. This is an unprecedented opportunity for us to be salt and light. Just pick up the phone, show some genuine curiosity, and concern, and see what happens. Most of all: Choose to be Christ-centered and positive in our communications.
